Important Public Notice

October 6: The Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) will continue to offer lead-certified water filters free of charge (one per household) to eligible City of Clare residents.  Filters will be available Monday – Friday, from 8:30 a.m. – 12 noon and 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the health department branch offices in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant through our Environmental Health services.  Please bring your driver's license or state ID card with you. City of Clare residents may be eligible for a free filter from the health department if they meet all of the following :

The household is connected to the City of Clare water and has not previously received a water filter from the city, the state, or the local health department and

A child under the age of 18 is currently living in the home, OR a child under the age of 18 spends a few hours a day and several days a week at this address for at least 3 months of the year OR a pregnant woman lives in the home and

A member of the household receives WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) benefits, Medicaid Insurance or otherwise is unable to afford a water filter

The City of Clare is also offering free filters to all of their water customers whom they have identified as to having galvanized service lines.  If you are interested in receiving a free filter, or having your water tested, please call the City offices at (989) 424-4071.

City residents who are not eligible to receive a free water filter can learn more about lead in drinking water, or selecting the right filter for their home, by visiting:

The City of Clare during normal water sampling and testing had two test sites in the August samples that exceeded the 15 parts per billion allowed maximum levels of lead.  Included with this notice and being mailed to all water customers you will find the following:

· Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy Lead in Drinking Water Public Action Notification and Education Document.

The City of Clare will host a public hearing at 6pm on Monday, October 7, 2019, in Room A (basement) of the Pere Marquette District Library, 185 East Fourth Street in Clare, Michigan to provide information and respond to questions related to the discovery of lead exceeding maximum allowable limits in the drinking water of two community water services in downtown Clare.  Representatives of the local health services offices, Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes, & Energy (EGLE), and the City of Clare will be present at the meeting to respond to questions and discuss planned corrective actions.  The public is strongly encouraged to attend.  Any citizen requiring accommodation to attend this meeting or obtain notice and information in an alternative format should contact the City Clerk at 989-386-7541 x106 before noon on the day of the meeting.
